after it ends. At least, spouse and I did.
Glenn Close deserves the Oscar. Such subtlety yet forceful.
There are several twists and plots that one cannot discuss them without revealing how it unfolds.
I admit, the end was a bit of a cop-out but still.
Spouse and I debated of how much the late 50s and early 60s shaped the relationship between the couple. We are into Mad Men territory when the wives were expected to stay in the background, to adoringly and lovingly support their husbands. The question that we debated was: as the years went by, should the dynamic have changed?
Interesting, I remember reading about it in several months ago and then it disappeared. Too many movies competing, I suppose. And then last week I read that it has been released again, now playing at a discount theater, $2.50 a ticket..

(16,507 posts)I thought I remember seeing previews for it but then like you said, it disappeared. I just now saw it On Demand. Very interesting story. And I love that her own daughter plays her younger self in the film.
As for the story, I believe this happens way more than people want to admit.

(2,252 posts)Like I was watching a Lifetime or Hallmark TV movie. Close was good but I think her Oscar will be more for her body of work. When Grace Kelly won best actress over Judy Garland for A STAR IS BORN, Groucho Marx said it was the biggest robbery since Brinks. That goes the same for this year. If Shallow doesn't win best song we will know the Academy is out to screw Gaga. Why wasn't Johnathan Price nominated ? Nice to see he was there with Close at the BAFTA's. Strange coincidence but both the last shot in A Star Is Born and the next to last shot in The Wife are the same.
