A Hard Days Night

It came to mind because someone started a thread about how different people reacted to a movie. Went to see it when it was first released with some neighborhood kids. 3 boys about 9 and 10 years old with 3 sisters about 12 to 13 years old. What I remember most was how the 3 girls sat there impassively when they flashed close ups of The Beatles while everybody else in the theater, boys and girls, went into a fit. The screaming was constant, you could only hear a word or two but they were silent. So that's what I remember about the Beatles first movie. Hope I didn't waste too much of your time.

1. I saw it in 1978 on my TV

and understood every fourth word since their accents were too difficult for me to understand. It started me on a Beatles obsession. Within a year I had all of their albums, several 45s and many books. I even figured out how to incorporate them into my Senior year research paper which was under the theme "war". I still have all my albums, books, 3-D bubble gum rings, original pins and playing cards. My Beatle Boots got shredded from too much wear. When John was killed I was living in NYC and wore black for a month. George was always my favorite.

2. I saw it in the theater too.

Remember back in those days there was no way to see them on a screen. No YouTube, no videos. You could not play or replay anything at will. You either saw them in person, you saw them live on TV (no VCR!), or you saw them at the movies. Those girls were trying to memorize every moment and I'm sure they relived it when they were home, writing in their diaries about it, etc. Many girls saw that movie over and over.

We had their records with their voices and we had the teen magazines with their mostly black and white pictures and that was it!

3. I remember that too!

I saw it at the Orinda Theater in Orinda, California!



It was mostly a bunch of young girls and the style at that time was wearing a white t-shirt for some reason! I had my white t-shirt on as well and the screaming inside the theater was louder than most parts of the movie.

4. A Hard Day's Night: Ahhhhh, yes!

I've seen A Hard Day's Night at least twice: Once, in a movie theatre south of Boston, when it first came out, and another time in the Coolidge Corner Movie Theatre, in Brookline, MA., several years ago, when it had a week-long render-vous in that theatre. As somebody who's always liked the Beatles a great deal, A Hard Day's Night was such a cool movie, as was the music. The Beatles were the very best in the rock-n-roll department, and still are.
