I just shouted out of my window while watching Network for the zillionth time (TCM). I was met with another neighbor doing the same thing...I had to laugh!

(24,606 posts)We saw the movie in a theater in Tokyo, where the audience did not seem to realize that the movie was a satire. I was the only one in the theater laughing.

(5 posts)I showed the rant to a friend at work, he had never seen it before. It's funny to think it was 1976, I was ten when I saw it the first time. It's 42 years later and nothing in our world has changed. I think Network was more speculative fiction than satire.

They wers discussing how "news" and journalism have changed since then as well as the idea that a news program would ever consider ratings and "entertainment". Anderson's mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, was married to the film's director once, Sidney Lumet.
That ending was terrific! It made the film!
