Less than 30 days after hitting 1 million subscribers, Helios and Matheson Analytics MoviePass has now swelled to 1.5M monthly customers.
MoviePass is attracting people back to the movie theaters by lowering their cost, which we believe is transformational for the industry, said Ted Farnsworth, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HMNY in a statement. We believe the data MoviePass collects from these million and a half movie-goers will become an important asset to our partners and the future of the movie industry, Mr. Farnsworth continued about the service which provides subscribers with unlimited movie tickets for $9.95/a month.

Been a member since the beginning through the ups and downs before this buyout with Helios and so forth. I love the service. I've had maybe 1 problem over three years and see 4-6 movies a month in theaters. The theater gets their money from moviepass, and they get me more willing to buy snacks when I'm not shelling out $45 for three tickets between myself and kids.

(3,194 posts)Since you're not buying a ticket each time, how much goes to each film you are seeing?

(6,436 posts)You pay moviepass $10 a month.
You get a credit card from moviepass.
You use that to buy the ticket. Moviepass pays the full ticket price each time. They're basically buying your analytics of what you see and when and how many times and are selling/collating that data for use.
With a couple of years of this they'll see trends of what types of movies do better at certain seasons than others and that can guide what's put in production, or scheduled, etc.
More data isn't always a good thing but there's a lot to be mined from this that can change the experience for the better.

(3,194 posts)If they pay $7/movie, and you see 4/month, it would seem that they lose $28-$10 on you. But I guess they make it up on others who may only go once per month or not at all.

(15,684 posts)Where is it happening?
Blue_Adept
(6,436 posts)They've been available for about four years now. Last summer saw the company sold to Helios (who is made up of redbox/netflix folks) and working with the data mining company for analytical information to sell.
it's completely on the up and up. Even if you just see one movie a month it could be worthwhile. But basically one movie per day is paid for.

(15,684 posts)What movies? There must be blackout dates and theaters that don't honor the subscription, right?

If this is really on the up and up it's a great deal. Especially if you have a movie going family like mine.
Thank you for all the info!

(6,436 posts)It may take a bit to get as they're processing so many cards and accounts but I've had mine for three years and kids got theirs last September and have worked flawlessly.
