"The Truth" must be hitting close to home.
CBS is denouncing the movie as a disservice to the public and journalists. The film, opening Friday, concerns the discrediting of a 2004 CBS News story on former President George W. Bush's military service record.
Redford plays Dan Rather in "Truth," with Blanchett as producer Mary Mapes. Together, they were behind a "60 Minutes II" story that questioned Bush's military record. But CBS apologized for the story after documents used were called into question and could not be verified. Mapes and three news executives were fired.

(16,104 posts)I was a loyal fan of CBS News, "60 Minutes," their perceived "liberal" lean.
Then, Election Night, Gore vs. Bush.
I listened to Rather's annoying homespun Texas witticisms (incongruous for a polished national reporter), and his repeated promise that CBS would not call any States until they were absolutely sure!
When he called Florida for Gore, the election was over! It was "Florida, Florida, Florida" and Gore had won!
I was doubly sure, because the polls were still open in the Florida panhandle (Central Time Zone). This result had to be rock-solid - how often do they call it before they finish voting?
The rest is history - and Dan Rather is dead to me (figure of speech).
Unless he can tell me what the frequency is.
