Can anyone mention any must-sees and why? I have Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, but I wondered if anyone else could recommend some. Thanks.

(2,926 posts)This version (2010 restoration) includes over 20 minutes of lost footage and provides an edit closer to it's original version.
The clarity of the imagery is stunning regardless of how many times you might have seen it.

Have you seen the 2000 film, "Shadow of the Vampire"? It's about the making of "Nosferatu", and it's wonderfully beautiful and creepy in its own right.

(53,235 posts)I can't remember much about it, except that I liked it. I've seen so many movies, I can't keep them all straight in my mind.

(68,289 posts)It's fairly straight-forward film-making.

(68,289 posts)But when I saw the film, I didn't see even a hint of the more well-known aspects of expressionism, i.e. twisted, distorted sets that are intended to mirror the twisted consciousness or subconciousness of the protagonist or villain. Highly stylized poses and gestures. Chiaroscuro lighting techniques, etc.
It was vastly different, IMO, from The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari.
