The story:
#JustinMeetMurelle
ST. JOSEPH--Meeting Justin Bieber is the dream of one St. Joseph Middle School student.
Murelle Plotner, 13, is the fourth female in her family to be diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
That's a blood cancer that can only be cured with a bone marrow transplant.
Thousands of Twitter users have tweeted, retweeded and made their message loud and clear ...
They want Justin Bieber to meet Murelle Plotner.
Plotner who was diagnosed with the blood cancer last October, just underwent a bone marrow transplant earlier this month.
However, this soon to be teenager who is suffering from Bieber fever, has more than an entire community behind her.
Plotner is currently recovering in St. Louis.
We reached out to Bieber's publicist, but didn't receive a call or comment back.
The St. Joseph-Ogden 5K is holding a special fundraising 1K called Movin' for Murelle.
All proceeds will go to the family, to help with ongoing medical expenses.
If you're looking to participate, click on Web Watch for a direct link.
If you're just wanting to donate, the family has set up a website to collect monetary donations, which can be also be found on Web Watch.

What they don't talk about in that news story is that the high school track and cross country team has also been involved in this and the guys' team shaved their heads and sent the picture out on Facebook as well. They are planning to run for Murelle. The Girls' team is also planning to run in that race they mention in the film. Murelle's Tweets were 90,000+ the last I heard...

(13,428 posts)Knowing that the hearts at Wishado and Curate Good are also involved in this means an awful lot. These kids have done a pretty cool thing to support Murelle and her family. I am so VERY proud of them!

(211 posts)As truly heartwarming as it is that so many kids are working to do something nice for this young lady, it's unlikely that Bieber will even give her the time of day. Especially since he really isn't the nicest guy; dropped a water balloon on an officer's head and closed down a whole arcade to play in it all by himself. If he does finally meet this fan of his, then it'll be upon the insistence of his agent, and only to improve his image.
Nevertheless, I wish the best for Miss Plotner, and I hope she gets to meet Bieber. It's not my place to judge her wish and I'd hate for her to feel disappointed/rejected.

(23,442 posts)Just read in GD that charges may be filed? I haven't followed his journey in the spotlight, but he seems to be having a Britney-style meltdown at the moment. Needs time away. If this story does reach him, maybe it will be precisely what he needs to have a change of perspective and get back on track (assuming he ever was on track; I don't know much about the young man).

(211 posts)And I haven't read much recently, so I didn't know about any charges possibly being filed. Doesn't sound too good for him though, so yikes! I hope you're right and that he maybe learns about this story and comes back down to Earth a little. And if he doesn't and continues on that familiar pop idol spiral, well, I just hope it doesn't affect the young lady in this story too much. It can be tough at that age to lose respect for someone you're a fan of.

St. Joe Girl Could Soon Meet Bieber
ST. JOSEPH/CHAMPAIGN--It really is like a dream come true.
After family, friends and people who don't even know Murelle took to Twitter, #JustinMeetMurelle began trending.
That's what caught the attention of Austin Leevy who works at This Is It Furniture.
Leevy ended up shaving his head to support Murelle.
When he returned to work, his boss Mike Namoff asked him-- what gives with the new cut?
Soon after, Namoff made some calls to charity auctions, and found ticket packages to meet the Beebs during a concert either in Philly or Chicago.ABC Newschannel 15's Marine Glisovic reports.
We spoke with Murelle's dad Corey, and he says the whole family is speechless, overwhelmed and still processing this.
He adds, if he could thank each and everyone who did this, he would shake everyone's hand from the bottom of his heart.
He goes on to say that Murelle is so excited, she doesn't even know what to say.
A very happy ending for a little girl that's been through a lot and still has a long road to recovery.
To make this all happen, Namoff is counting on you to donate.
If you would like to help, checks can be made to the Plotner Benefit, and dropped off at any This Is It Furniture location, or at the First National Bank of Ogden

You'll notice that this was nothing provided by Bieber or his people. I've never been impressed by much when it comes to "the beeb" and no, I'm not too surprised that he's been unresponsive to date. I am, however, terribly proud of the people who took this little girl seriously and who tried to help bring something good into her life right now.
I know that some people have actually been kinda snarky about why anybody would WANT to meet Bieber, but this is a middle school girl we are talking about. When YOU were all in Jr High was your taste in anything fully developed yet? I know mine wasn't. Plus, I gotta say, there's an element to this that just grabs my heart. As my husband put it, "If it was my little girl I'd arrange a way for her to meet Satan himself if that was what she wanted." I think we all mutter "Thank God that isn't my child" while we reach for our checkbook and strap on a pair of shoes for the 1K.
Peace to you all. I'll update on Murelle if you like.
