In an effort to put a human face on their officers, Richmond, Virginia, PD put up a FaceBook page of police officers and their pets. Most have dogs but some have birds, chickens, hamsters, and even miniature donkeys. You can see the page here, you don't need to log in:

One particular picture soon went viral. It's an officer with his 5 deaf dogs. He had heard about one who was at a shelter and when he saw her, it was love at first sight. He couldn't let her languish in the shelter without a home, as so many dogs with deafness or other disabilities do.
Breeds that commonly have the gene that causes deafness include Pit Bulls, Dalmatians, and Boxers. Before long, he adopted 4 more.



Now the photo of officer Adams has gotten more than 1.2 million views internationally. And to top it all off, the group Deaf Dogs Rock has named Adams to its board so that he can help spread the word that dogs who can't hear can still be great family members.
