(29,414 posts)I guess it was more of a promotion for the author's podcast. I like Rev. Darling's quote: "An Indescribable loving, peaceful presence" because I know what that Love is like. No, I've never had a NDE, but did one time have a lucid dream that went beyond anything I've had in the way of lucid dreams (I've had a few, so I know what that's like, too.)
That Love is indescribable, truly. It all sounds cliche, but there just is not any spoken or written language on the planet that can describe it to someone that hasn't experienced it. The only way to understand it is through direct experience.

(3,747 posts)There has been some research into the chemical DMT as well as other psychedelics in the past and now. DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine) is very similar to LSD and psilocybin and can produce extremely powerful visions, imagery, and experiences. It has been considered the most powerful psychedelic known. A good article on it can be found here.
It is possible it may be found in many animal and plant species and is common throughout nature. Our bodies produce it naturally. Some research suggests (and really, what research has been done has been limited due to our drug wars) that it may be the chemical responsible for the spiritual and transformative experiences of buddhist monks in heavy meditation. That same chemical may also flood our brains during near-death and death experiences.
I thought people here might be interested in how these experiences may come to be. My own experiences with psychedelics were the source of my spirituality. The experiences I had were as real as anything else in my life.
