KANSAS CITY, Mo. An interfaith memorial service for a teenage boy killed in a hit-and-run crash last week brought people together on a mission to end hate.
Abdisamad Sheikh-Hussein, 15, was hit outside a Somali community center in Kansas City Thursday evening. Police said they believe the driver charged with hitting the teenager may have done so deliberately in an effort to kill a Muslim. The FBI is investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
Community and religious leaders from a wide range of faiths gathered at Sheikh-Hussein's mosque Sunday to show their support, and to send a message that violence is unacceptable and intolerable.
The teen had just led evening prayers at the mosque before he was struck. His father is one of the mosque's religious leaders.
