Happy Pentecost!

In the Christian calendar it is the day we celebrate the Holy Ghost/Spirit descended on the apostles in tongues of fire 10 days after the ascension of Jesus Christ. Acts of the Apostles also says the Apostles were able to speak in many different tongues so that all people would understand them.

In the Jewish calendar it is the day they celebrate the giving of the Law/Torah to the whole congregation at Mount Sinai.

Happy Pentecost!!!

Attributed to Stephen Langton, archbishop of Canterbury, who was also a principal author of the Magna Carta, as well as dividing the The Bible verses in to chapters and numbered verses.

bilingual, actually ... an alternative service offered at our church

and celebrated Pentecost with red balloons, a mariachi band singing the Spanish hymns, and a folkloric Mexican dance troupe. Then, a terrific potluck.

and this area being immigrant-central, we've always been able to get a dozen languages or so reading at the same time in utter chaos.

Aside from Latino food specialties, there was also jollof rice from our West African members.
