A Nation of Cowards on Gun Laws

....John Russell Houser was known to authorities as a certified nut case: diagnosed as bipolar, denied a concealed weapon permit in 2006 after being charged with arson and domestic violence, placed under a court order to stay away from his wife and home and committed by a Georgia judge to a mental hospital against his will in 2008.

Yet six years later, he was able to walk into an Alabama pawn shop and walk out with a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun. Houser should never have been able to buy a gun. The same goes for Aurora’s James Holmes or any of the others.

(Bobby) Jindal, a GOP presidential candidate, has got it backward. Now’s not only the time to talk about gun control but also the time to do something about it.

Unfortunately, as a nation we’ve lost our spine over the issue of gun safety. There’s no movement in Congress toward reasonable new gun safety measures, not even universal background checks. And nobody in Congress has proposed legislation like California’s recently enacted “gun violence restraining order,” which allows family members or law enforcement to go before a judge and request that guns temporarily be removed from individuals, not just because they have a criminal record but because of any history of mental illness, violent behavior or drug or alcohol abuse. A law like that would have stopped Houser from possessing a gun.

Sadly, there won’t be any action this time either, because too many members of Congress — starting with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — are owned by the National Rifle Association, even though the NRA no longer represents hunters and sportsmen.

You won’t find a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun or AK-47 in a duck blind. Today’s NRA is nothing but a lobby for gun manufacturers, whose only motive is selling as many assault weapons as possible, no matter who buys them or how many innocent people are killed....

You sure nra doesn't represent hunters & sportsmen, or maybe just not officially? I'll bet they'd come to his rescue if this hunter's guns were taken away for 'hunting'.
Maybe Africa can do something about exposing & prosecuting gun nut hunters where America cannot. I think we can all agree this minnesota dentist who shot the lion for 'sport' is a pretty sick gunnut more interested in trophy game killing, big heads for his home. Even tho it's usually hard to get upset over the death of a lion, the circumstances make it so.

Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said in a statement that Walter James Palmer of Eden Prairie, Minn., paid at least $50,000 to track and kill the animal. According to police, Palmer will face charges of poaching.. the president of the Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe, said that Palmer's whereabouts are currently unknown.
The conservation group and Zimbabwean authorities said that Palmer ultimately killed, Cecil, a protected lion and one of the most famous animals at the Hwange National Park. Cecil was fitted with a GPS collar and tracked by the Oxford University research program..
The conservation group alleges that Palmer worked with the guides to lure Cecil from the national park to an unprotected area by strapping a "dead animal to their vehicle." Once the animal was off the national park land, Palmer allegedly shot Cecil with a bow and arrow, but did not kill him. The group then tracked the wounded animal for 40 hours, ultimately shooting and killing him, Rodrigues said. Cecil was skinned and beheaded.
"The saddest part of all is that now that Cecil is dead, the next lion in the hierarchy...will most likely kill all Cecil's cubs so that he can insert his own bloodline into the females," Rodrigues said.

this is not the first time Palmer has been in trouble for hunting. Palmer agreed to plead guilty in 2008 for lying to a federal agent about where he shot a black bear in Wisconsin. He was fined $3,000 and received probation.
Palmer is properly licensed and able to practice in the state, according to the Minnesota Board of Dentistry. Board records show that Palmer was the subject of a sexual harassment complaint settled in 2006, with Palmer admitting no wrongdoing and agreeing to pay a former receptionist more than $127,000.

I think it wouldn't be wise for me to put into print my feelings about that depraved dentist who killed Cecil.

Thanks, Ms Mom, and so soon nra maggots are out & about bashing criticism of dentist palmer's lion kill (I also started a thread on it):

As outrage continued over the killing of tourist attraction Cecil the lion by a hunter in Zimbabwe, National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent called the controversy "a lie" and a "joke," adding, "God are people stupid."
