Something I found in an article about fatal shootings at gun ranges . . .
Look at all the bullet holes in the ceiling! That's why I don't go to gun ranges, too many responsible gun owners go there . . .

(26,795 posts)That's a likely result of inexperienced shooters, whether they rented or own the gun.
So you got someone learning to shoot who goes to a gun range that's built to contain and sustain the activity. That seems responsible.
Now, if you think a background check is in order before you can rent a gun there, I'd agree.
I know responsible gun owners. One even let me look at his safe. Why are you picking on him??

And for what it is worth, not all those holes were from beginners and neophytes. I've been to a lot of ranges and can attest that the average gun handler is not all that aware of where the muzzle is pointed. That's why I don't go there anymore.
If you find yourself near DFW I'll let you look at my gun safe too after I've frisked you to make sure you're not carrying. Nobody with a cc weapon comes into my home. Not because I'm scared of guns but because I'm scared of people who are too frightened to leave home without being armed.

You have a conversation with them. I've come to the conclusion that it's going to come to a cold dead hands situation.
