The Gun Report: February 11, 2014

"This weekend, motorists in Beaumont, Tex., were treated to a peculiar sight: a man in a banana costume toting an AK-47 and a drum magazine with a 50-round capacity. He was promoting the grand opening of a nearby gun shop, Golden Triangle Tactical. Police let the 18-year-old go with a citation for violating a city ordinance which prohibits soliciting alongside roadways.

Derek Poe, the gun shop’s owner, was not charged, though in December he was cited for disorderly conduct for walking through a mall with an assault rifle strapped to his back. Witnesses said they were scared for their lives. Poe claimed he was exercising his Second Amendment right to open carry.

Shortly after the incident, the mall placed signs along each parking lot entrance reminding customers that concealed handguns are prohibited inside the structure
."

Here is today’s report (33 shooting incidents, 9 deaths):

don't promote things like "tactical weapons." I remember replying that gun fanciers drool over gun crap like that, and the manufacturers market to fanciers' baser instincts. Gunz are a sick obsession with too many folks nowadays, and the gun report just emphasizes the direct and indirect effects of this obsession.
