California SAFE Act being voted on right now

I just took a minute and called my State Senator to ask them to support the Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act, which would make California's gun laws the smartest and safest in the nation. It faces a critical vote Wednesday on the Senate floor.

Call your Senator with the link below. Courage Campaign will provide everything you need.

Washington has dithered and failed to get anything done to protect communities from gun violence, and right-wing NRA members are pouring calls into Senate offices right now to sway politicians in Sacramento. This is how they defeated universal background checks in D.C.

Please take 30 seconds and call. It's so, so easy.

The LIFE Act includes eight separate bills that close loopholes, increase required training, and provide the resources to get illegal guns off the street.

Just use this link to call: http://act.couragecampaign.org/call/LIFEAct_Senate_calls/

Thank you for helping save lives and reduce gun violence!

I tried, DtG, but this is what I got after entering my info & zip code:

Sorry, this action isn't available where you live.

So what does it mean anyway? this evidently is a vote on a california bill, in the US senate, today may29th, how does it get in the US senate?
How come (do you think) I'm disallowed in pennsy - what, casey & toomey aren't voting or something?(both are pro gun but toomey more rabidly so than casey, altho ironically, both voted for manchin/toomey bg checks, & I believe casey voted for the other 3 measures awb, superclip ban, & strawmans, while toomey did not.)
In any event, good luck with the measure, sounds fine to me.

YOUR Senator is on the fence. Take 30 seconds and call now. The script is below and the number is on the right.

bill: I believe that the post is speaking about California State Senators, and not United States Senators.

Bingo; I'm sitting in the dunce corner here. I read it quickly & just saw the 'call your senator' & thought why not, without comprehending it fully.
DtGrouch isn't to fault, it was there in black & white, hope it turns out ok.

what I didn't 'see': called my State Senator to ask them to support the Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act, which would make California's gun laws the smartest and safest in the nation. It faces a critical vote Wednesday on the Senate floor.
What I saw: Call your Senator with the link below. Courage Campaign will provide everything you need. Washington has dithered and failed to get anything done to protect communities from gun violence, and right..

Eh, had to put up something in my defense.
Thanks for the kudos on the other thread bill, I enjoy your posts too, even this one - like telling a guy he's got a booger on his nose in public, he's really thankful you did.

because I thought the same thing when I first read the OP, and I was ready to call my US Senator. Like you said however, good luck to California.

5. LIFE Act gun-control legislation passes state Senate

The California Senate approved the Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act, a package of seven gun control bills aimed at tightening the state's regulation of firearms.

The most lively debate centered around a bill requiring buyers to obtain a permit, which must be shown for every ammunition purchase.

(snip)

The package of bills approved also includes:

- Prohibiting detachable magazines in semiautomatic rifles

- Expanding the list of offenders banned from owning a gun

- Barring the possession of large-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds

6. Recent GC laws affect ~25 - 30% of population

Fantastic Robb & congrats DtGrouch & california; & this affects about 12% of the US population too, since calif has ~35 million people.
Add on New York, Maryland, Connecticut recently & it's up to around 25% of american population.
Forget about my pennsylvania tho, what with a rightwing legislature backed in during election 2010, gerrymandered the whole state & now repub majority control in the state upper & lower houses, repub gov corbett, & nra entrenched here as their most solid state.
We need dem gov Ed Rendell back, he supported guncontrol & one gun/ month law, not blabbing the days away on the talk shows.
Gotta get that book 'Conquer Depression'. Maybe dem Alyson Schwartz will win next cycle, yay, perked up already.

Prohibiting detachable magazines in semiautomatic rifles

That would do well in hindering mass shooting attacks, better than superclip bans perhaps.
I oppose the death penalty except for mass shootings, like anders breivik (who got his 30 rd clips mailed from america, too hard to get in europe) who killed 77 people in norway a few years back, about 70 with his guns. He got life in prison in norway which disallows dp, hard to believe. He had a cheshire grin on his face at times when recounting it, says he did it for patriotic & religious (christian) concerns, appears to have no remorse. What is the disincentive to mass shootings if you can expect only hotel graybar &/or an insanity defense?
