Amy Ramaker is a chapter leader with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and became involved with the organization after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children.

Since 2014 she’s been with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and the organization has “worked diligently to affect change in our gun laws in every state and also on the Federal level. ”

Is it a fight that can be won?

“Yes,” she says. “There are certainly days that are frustrating, but California is a great example of progress. Last legislative session, Governor Brown signed a bill into law that closed a loophole in our background check system. This legislative session we are supporting a bill that will make sure guns are not allowed in our children’s classrooms. And most of all, it’s the good fight; it’s the fight for our children. We are on the right side of history.”

Contrary to the ranting of the "cold-dead-hands" NRA imbeciles, public opinion and local laws are slowly turning to sanity and reason against the epidemic of gun violence in our streets and communities. It is courageous individuals like Amy Ramaker who are leading the fight against the right-wing gun lobby and their hero Trumpty Dumpty.

1. This part:

America is known for its love of guns and a history littered with mass shootings — 372 in the US alone in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker.

The simple fact that there is a site that tracks mass shootings,
that fact that there are so many of these mass shootings,
the fact that these mass shootings come as more and more guns are sold,

and yet professional whore Wayne LaPierre can insist that only a good person with a gun can stop a bad person with a gun.

The NRA owns many politicians.

2. The NRA and it's apologists

always leaves out the first sentence: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..." To the right-wing good ole boys, a "well regulated militia" is Bubba and his drunken buddies driving around in a pick 'em up truck and shooting at stop signs.

3. The NRA used to be

more about gun safety, hunting, and of course the 2nd Amendment.

In last few decades it has turned into a whore of the gun manufacturers, promoting international weapons trafficking and being ideological hacks for the fascist right.

Were they conservative and anti-gun control sure, but they weren't batshit crazy christofascists.

I you want more sane gun laws, there is going to have to be a cultural change.

4. There is a cultural change

in progress, but it may take a generation or two. After all, the NRA (like the Republican Party) has had over 40 years to turn this country from a mostly friendly, kind, welcoming culture, to one of blatant bigotry, racism, and hate for all things "different."

Up until the "gang of five" SCOTUS right-wingers (see Citizens United and Heller), gun laws were pretty much settled in this country. The NRA, and ALEC however, had been chipping away at the State, County, and City level for more permissive gun laws for decades, and SCOTUS just followed their lead.

The younger generations are not following the NRA script however, and the gun lobby is frantically marketing to different demographics, as their main market is dying off. Countering those right-wing propaganda messages is having some success at the local level currently. The obvious bigotry and racism by Trump and the Republicans in this chaotic administration is also helping to expose these asshats for what they really are.

Lastly, the Second Amendment has been misinterpreted on purpose by the right-wing in order to sell more guns. SCOTUS decisions (especially weak ones) can be reversed.
