On Earth Day 1970, comic strip character Pogo famously paraphrased Admiral Perry. “We have met the enemy and he is us,” read the little possum’s word balloon as he stood sickened, shamed and bewildered, holding a trash bag amid the incomprehensible human garbage in the once-happy forest.

On Friday, we all watched sickened, shamed and bewildered — again — holding nothing but useless prayers amid the incomprehensible human carnage that was the once-happy vacation airport in Fort Lauderdale.

We have met the terrorist and he is us.

Yes, we are our own terrorists, killing each other in record numbers that keep climbing.

All terrorism deaths world wide are a small fraction of number of people killed by guns in American hands every year.

I'll take my chances with terrorists of all stripes. It's the responsible gun owners that scare me.

2. Thank you for recognizing

that the sociopathic hate groups, the mentally unstable, cowardly bullies, wife-beaters, racists, bigots, and other anti-social members of society in this country are indeed allowed to become armed terrorists because the right-wing has forced their misinterpretation of the Second Amendment on the entire nation.

The ultra-"conservative" right-wing cabal that is in the process of taking over this country though treasonous acts aided and abetted by another oppressive regime, Russia, will only increase the availability of guns to those who shouldn't have them. Their goal, as far as I can tell, is to foster chaos and anarchism in order to be seen as having "rushed to the rescue" when they impose draconian police measures on our minorities, immigrants, and anyone who doesn't "look American."

The imbeciles that believe the Second Amendment gives them the "right" to mount an armed insurrection against the far-right are the same ones who have an arsenal in their closet, and belong to the NRA, all in the name of Liberty and Freedom. What an ironic joke they are. These are the same jerks who voted for Herr Trump because Democrats want to "take their precious guns."

So you are exactly right n2doc, we are surrounded by millions of armed American terrorists, and many more potential terrorists if someone pisses them off.

3. Well I didn't write the article, but I do agree with you

It's funny (and not in a ha ha way) that whenever the nuts on the radio start talking about how everyone needs to be armed, they generally say 'except the liberals'. What they really want is to be able to terrorize anyone they want. And in their ideal world, kill them too (Stand your ground and all).

It is clear to me that the Fort Lauderdale airport shooter was mentally ill. People will spin it as some sort of ISIS inspired act, but the guy was getting 'instructions' from the void....
