A cheap safe way that I raised my mood..

32 ounces of water in the morning.., just tap water, raised my mood .I have read that most of us are dehydrated during sleep, if the heat comes on. The blowing air does it.,,It dries us out.. In the summer, when we get air conditioning, the same thing happens. Recently, I have tried this and it works..yes, it really works to raise my mood. I tried it. Within the first half hour upon waking, I drink 32 oz of tap water. . In about an hour and a half, I noted a significant improvement in my mood....no matter what else was going on...
Now this one is cheap, has not hurt me, (other than going to pee a few times more) and could work for another person.... Recently, I read that 90 percent of people in this country are dehydrated. It was an attempt I think to sell bottled water, but regular tap water is fine. With regular tap water, no one makes a cent on it. In general, we wouldn't notice the improvement in mood an hour and a half after drinking the water, because it is not.."right away" But a good friend of mine recommended this, and it works for me.

(36,063 posts)I find DIY psychological and medical advice troublesome.
I'm pretty sure that drinking a quart of water won't hurt you, although in a half an hour it may give you the urge to piss like a race horse...which might be inconvenient if you are stuck on a city bus.
A person with mild dehydration might have various physiological responses that could be 'alieved" by drinking water...
reduction of headache, confusion, etc are all symptoms that could be mixed-up with 'feeling better'.
I can't say that they aren't.
But, DU has pretty straight forward rules about medical advice and that is DON'T GIVE IT!
If you really have an urge to share such information, do it with your friends via their other media accounts.

(10,039 posts)Coffee is warm, and caffeine damages your nerve endings over time and then you need more of it.
Water is cold (usually) and that alone can wake a person up, but I think people don't realize they're automatically dehydrated after sleep. As for improving your mood? Meh.

(36,063 posts)As a diurnal species with 6-8 hour sleep cycles we actually DO have physiological mechanisms that counter dehydration during sleep.
Just because a person is sleeping does NOT mean that a person is entering a state of dehydration.

I can't say anything against drinking water in the morning. And I didn't know what you just told me, but I do wake up dehydrated for some reason. I'd like to see studies on it, rather than basing it all on personal experience. No one has in this thread, and it appears this thread is about personal experience...
As long as that is very clear to everyone. I also do not want people to say, "drink water instead of taking pills." Which angered me about this thread and that's why I didn't respond to it immediately. Since that's exactly what it did sound like, but s/he's trying to say differently about it and I'm not sure how to respond to this yet.

It might be worth trying a couple of days in a row. That is up to you
.. .... maybe..but, this is not like the caffeine in coffee, I tried that. Caffeine did not work like the water...that was my experience..
Yes, I do have to go to the bathroom more, but for me, my mood is significantly improved. And for me, it is worth it..

So, try it, if you want. This is not medical advise..

But it does take an hour and a half for me to feel the results.... And it might work..

That was not/ and is not my desire...It is just something people can try, like exercise to raise moods. It worked for me......
Also.........very important.....very important.....very important...
This water is in addition to medications and not instead of. I am taking other medications for a number of ailments and have stopped none of them. I have not reduced any of them....same as before. just adding water..

(36,063 posts)as far as I am concerned, it would be the same if you were talking about meditation, prayer, adopting a pet rock or relaxing to the smell of burning parsley.
The issue is giving advice about on how people should behave to improve their state of well being.
Which you did and which is against DU rules.

I do not think I have broken the rules by discussing moods and water. I have not used any disparaging language, and I have not cited medical evidence. You can think what you want, and I respect that. If this is illegal, it will be decided by others.

(1,200 posts)Opinions are still allowed, correct? When I get up I have a huge mug of coffee (with a bit of milk so it's not too hot). When I finish my coffee I grab a 20 oz bottle of water from the fridge and down that in about a half an hour. It tastes and feels so damn good after the coffee. It doesn't make the previous night's nightmares go away or make me un-depressed. It just makes me feel good while I'm drinking it. If I can feel just a tiny bit of pleasure from water, I'll take it.

(1,771 posts)If not, then I'll probably mix in 4 oz of Espresso, with 4 cups of ice, and 2 oz of cream. Put it in a blender (with the Xanax, if allowed), mix it up. Drink it down. My mood won't improve but I'll be able to function for 2 or 3 hours.
