DU Community Help
Related: About this forumEarlG, would it be possible to change DU's software so both x.com and twitter.com posts appear? Elon Musk has
now changed the links to x.com.
See this OP with a Sanders tweet that I just posted:

We'd need both x.com and twitter.com, I think, for all the tweets from before this change to continue to appear in those old threads.
Thanks in advance!

(22,540 posts)We have experimented with changing the embed code, and at the moment, embeds that use x.com do not work on DU, while embeds that use twitter.com continue to work.
We've decided that no matter what happens we'll continue allowing embeds from this platform, but I don't think we need to make any changes just yet. However, we'll keep an eye on the situation.

I don't know if you checked Twitter today - the change happened last night - but a lot of users, if not all, also had their display switched to night mode, which.I never use, and had to change it back. Though maybe Twitter corrected whatever snafu caused that display change since this morning.

(22,540 posts)Embeds with twitter.com URLs still work just as they used to. Embeds with x.com do not work. That may change soon, but it hasnt changed yet.
FWIW, in our code, simply replacing twitter.com with x.com for embeds does not work. It appears that embedding x.com URLs may come down to purchasing access to their API, which were certainly not going to do.
If they remove the twitter.com URL altogether, and if x.com embedding is dependent on access to their API, there will be no more embedded tweets on DU. At the moment though, things seem to be working as they have been all along.

I thought it might be partly about Musk's Mars-sized ego, since he's complained again and again about people still calling the platform Twitter. As they should...
