Related: About this forum"We'd like to send you notices"
Every couple of logins, this message pops up, that DU wants to send notifications. There is no "No, and stop asking me" option, which I think might be a useful thing to have. Otherwise, you know, one tends to feel nagged.

(152,069 posts)If you bought a star (at any amount) those notices would most likely stop. I've never had such a thing.
It's worth a thought!

(32,395 posts)I recall being able to turn the notifications off.
Edit: here's an earlier thread on the topic:

There are no options currently to turn off the "We'd like to send you notifications" popup.

(32,395 posts)If you are in skinner mode, it might be in the default version (?) I haven't checked.

(11,463 posts)Again, I'm not finding any options anywhere. And even back then, none of the notification settings dealt with the pop-up malthaussen and I are talking about.
Edited to add. I'm always in regular mode but I temporarily went into Skinner Mode - nothing there either.

(22,540 posts)Its not related to any account settings on DU and its not related to Star Memberships. Whats supposed to happen is that if you click No you wont be asked again. However, as with so many web technologies, things dont always work perfectly for everyone all the time.
You should be able to prevent the request from occurring again by tweaking some browser settings. Heres an article that explains how to do it in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox:

(11,463 posts)Here's what I get when I click the padlock in the left end of the URL window
Edited to add - I also checked all pull-downs and ">" links END EDIT
I'm using Microsoft Edge and I checked out EarlG's link
https://www.choice.com.au/electronics-and-technology/computers/computer-software/articles/how-to-disable-annoying-browser-notification-requests
It has a full 5 credit computer science course on how to deal with the problem in Edge. Sigh.
EDITED TO ADD - I followed their instructions, but it doesn't change what appears when I click on the padlock. END EDIT

(32,395 posts)Just looking at older threads, did you look in ''clock area in the taskbar'' (lowest right-hand corner) for the ''shut off''
