Since the bitter cold hit, my disabilities

have kept me in bed for a majority of the days. Because of that, I've been using my phone to access DU. Since DU4, it's been great and easy to use... until day before yesterday (Monday, 11/27). I'd been using the phone to read DU quite a bit that day and everything was going great until sometime in the mid-afternoon (I think). At that time, everything on the page got jumbled.

Instead of there being tabs at top for Nav and My Stuff, each of those tabs is spelled out completely on the same page, one line per item. In addition, the fonts are really screwed up. There are lines that are written on top of the preceding line, for example; rendering all unreadable.

Further, the width is screwed up on the phone. There is no longer a maximum width that fits the viewable section of the phone.

Even the comments, themselves, are screwed up.

I had changed over to "Skinner mode" and up until Monday, it was working fine. Thinking that perhaps this was an issue now (for some reason), I changed preferences to all other modes, one at a time. However, nothing straightened out at any of the attempts.

The phone, for reading DU, is now extremely hard. It's impossible if I want to read the comments and add my own voice.

Is anyone else having any of these problems with their phones? I use a Samsung Android (the latest smartphone, as of last year). I'll admit I'm much more proficient on a computer. I guess I'm just an old lady when it comes to this smartphone. I just can't understand why, after I opened an article in DU and read it, and then clicked to go back to the front page, that page was then screwed up, and all of DU has been screwed up since on my phone.

Like I said, I'm disabled and using the phone for a lot of things while I'm laying out in the bed. I've brought my laptop into the bedroom and have been using it, but I really liked the mobile DU app when I was first using it. What could have gone wrong? What in the world did I do to screw things up so badly?!

1. I sometimes have funky formatting issues too. Not on DU but elsewhere.

I’m guessing you already tried turning your phone off and letting it rest for a while and then turning it back on again because that always works for me. Im not any kind of a whiz.

If that doesn’t help I can tell you is I hope you’re feeling comfortable and the problem gets sorted.

6. Yeah... the ubiquitous reboot solution (gryn).

I did try that first thing. While it usually works for the PC, it didn't have the same effect with my phone.

9. Rats does Android do software updates? Maybe try clearing cookies and cache first?

10. I tried all that.

Didn't help. So I got Duck Duck Go and now use it instead. Works like a charm. That points to the chrome browser I was using to be where the problem laid, but no matter what I did I couldn't make it see the stylesheet. Its entirely possible that an android or Samsung update started off the problem. But id been wanting to switch to Duck duck go anyway. This just pushed me faster

2. I had the same problem on my desktop

If you have the equivalent buttons, you hit, "shift," and hold it down, then hit, "refresh."

3. Two thoughts

First, try clearing the cache. It’ll be in your Settings.

You don’t say what kind of phone you have. On my iPhone, a double-hard restart usually rests the phone. If you have an Android, there must be something similar.

7. Yeah, I think I said I have a Samsung Android...

newest Smartphone, as of last year... these things come out so often, I can't keep up!

Anyway, I didn't do a double hard reset. Just a single. For gryns, and because I'm all out of ideas, I'll give this one a try! Who knows... it may just work! I still try to be hopeful.

For me, the formatting problems are usually solved by clearing cache/history/cookies.

I'll try to bring it up on the phone and try to use the suggestions to see if any help. It also shows EarlG's addy, in case these suggestions don't work. I truly appreciate it.
