DU Community Help
Related: About this forumEarlG fixed what I thought was an unfixable problem.
Skinner mode is up and running for me and I feel better about things here.
I do like this community and I don't want to feel lost and uncomfortable here. I know that most of you feel the same way.

(6,352 posts)By helping you set your account to Skinner Mode?
Thank you for pointing that out. I fixed it. At least I can fix something around here!

(2,866 posts)benefits of du4. Go to My Stuff and click on accounts. Scroll down to find the section with preferences, i.e. default, night mode, or Skinner...click on Skinner and remember to hit save.

(57,476 posts)on screen but some features are not included. It is IMO easier to operate than the bug-filled DU4.
I'm using it now. One thing that I miss is that a poster's number of posts is not shown...little things like that are absent but it's still preferable to me than DU4.

(22,540 posts)I assume you mean next to the poster's name on their posts. If you're on a phone, nothing has changed -- we never showed post counts on mobile, so you're not missing anything. If you're not on a phone though, please let me know so I can check it out.

(57,476 posts)it takes a while to get all the features working. I'm living with it.

(22,540 posts)Post counts should appear next to usernames on posts if you're on a laptop. It should look like this:
Are those the locations where you are not seeing post counts? I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing.

(22,540 posts)I can't see any reason why that particular bit of info wouldn't be showing up for you -- nevertheless, it should be fixable, but I'll need to do some troubleshooting.
The thing is, as we move forward and resolve the bigger issues that many people are experiencing (which tend to be obvious and easy to fix), we're left with more narrow issues that only affect a few people, or maybe even a single individual. These tend to be trickier to resolve, because it's not always obvious what's causing the problem.
If it's okay with you I'd like to continue to troubleshoot this with you via email because I might need to ask you some questions about your specific configuration. Would it be okay if we continue via email tomorrow? I can contact you at the email address attached to your DU account, or if you would prefer to use a different email address, please just email me at earlg@democraticunderground.com from the address you want to use.

(6,556 posts)I'm on a Mac laptop running 10.15.7 and using Safari. Post counts are coming up for me. I'd bet it's a browser issue.

Also I will add that on a couple of occasions I have witnessed a couple times were a person's number of posts did not show up. Thought that was odd.

(22,540 posts)...then scroll down to the "Visual appearance" section, you'll see a few different options for viewing the site.
Default Mode is the new layout (which is now the default layout when you visit DU).
Night Mode is a variation of Default Mode, except it uses light text on a dark background.
Skinner Mode is reproduction of the previous DU layout. I named it after original DU co-founder (now retired) Skinner, since the previous design was his initial concept. Skinner Mode uses the new navigation system, but it looks like the old site.
There is also a setting which automatically switches from Default Mode to Night Mode in the evening, and back again in the morning, if that's what you like.
As a Star Member, you can select from any of these options and can change them at will. Give them a try and you'll see the differences.
