I mentioned in another thread that the spell checker on DU is an ancient piece of third-party software from at least DU2 and possibly DU1, written in a language which neither Elad nor myself are experts in. We left it in place for legacy reasons, although we had to remove it on the mobile version because we couldn't get it to work.

So ultimately it's there for desktop users who are accustomed to having it, but we're not going to update it further.

6. Thanks anyway. Unfortunately, Firefox browser has never seemed to like doing spell checking in Titles

From Mozilla:

Automatic spell-checking is only turned on for text boxes containing more than one line, where you can enter as much text as you want.
