Is it just me getting an 'ad-blocker' warning on DU from out the blue?

A couple days ago Chrome told me DU is not secure (I overrode that warning) and just now every page I go to I've started seeing this:

Chrome browser, Windows 10. Don't recall any recent Chrome updates.

Don't know that I NEED Ad Blocker Plus on DU since I'm a Star member, but I'd rather not disable it if I don't have to.

This anti-malware software is free and widely used:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download

Even people who are not Star Members should never see ads like that (which hijack the entire screen). There may be some unwanted adware on your computer.

And if I disable my ad-blocker the nag goes away. Nothing else is odd about how my PC is operating.

I use the built-in Windows Security and just ran a quick scan, no new threats detected.

Guess I need to move on to third party detectors. Gah ... I hate doing that!

I’ll look into this further…

On edit: quick question about the “not secure” message. Are you going to https:// or http:// ?

Try the former and see if you still get the “not secure” message.

it’s probably a bad ad at our end. Let me look into it.

Pic may be small, but bottom-line it's using https:// and cert is valid but Chrome reporting Site as not being secure.

Weird stuff.

16. Hi again

It turns out that this was apparently a test by DU's ad provider which misfired -- it should be resolved now. So nothing to worry about, it was not malicious, just an error.

No more unsecure issue, nor Ad Block Plus nags when I enabled after re-login.

FYI, and thanks for your attention to the matter

Will let you know if it resurfaces.

15. Update on this
Tue Feb 7, 2023, 03:20 PM
Feb 2023

It turns out that something went wrong with a test that DU's ad provider was working on behind the scenes -- I wasn't previously aware that it was happening, and nobody on DU should have seen that message.

The bottom line is that it is nothing malicious and the problem should now be resolved. Sorry to worry anyone!
