Dog ate a dark chocolate chip that fell out of my cookie ?

A dark chocolate chip fell out of my cookie at about 10:30 pm est. Dakota, my 101 pound German Shepherd grabbed it and ate it before I could stop him. He has vomited a few times since and did some diarrhea but otherwise seems fine. Should he be ok? Unfortunately no emergency vets in our immediate area and I don't drive.

He'll likely be fine, especially having vomited. Veterinarians encourage inducing vomiting in these sorts of situations. Your pupper took care of that already.

Chocolate contains theobromine which is a cardio toxin. Best to call your vet when they open today.

5. Per your calculator, one chip is not a crisis.

For example, per your calculator, a 60 pound dog would have to eat a half pound of chocolate for treatment to be required. An 8 pound dog would have to eat over a whole ounce, otherwise treatment is not advised.

Call the vet even when not needed, so they can generate more business for vets.

I am glad you care and are careful, though. Not knocking you, just noting how business works.

8. Yeah and vomiting/diarrhea

Is weird just hours after a non toxic dose. Maybe something else going on. It is always safest to listen to your own vet and not the internet.

My specialty is pathology and I would rather not have pets die. I don’t need the business.

6. My old 110 lb. Siberian/Catahoolan dog ate a small bag of generic Hersheys kisses.

He did this Christmas night after we'd gone to bed and we found the empty bag the next morning. He was fine, but my friends' small dog nearly died when she got into a few tootsie rolls.

from something else he ate, and that just tipped the scale, but I didn't feed him anything different, and I didn't see him eat anything else he shouldn't have. Although at night when I let him out in his fenced in area to do his business, I can't always see very well what he's up to.

I think that more likely than a single choc chip causing his stomach upset.
