Assuming this is legitimate, I am just sick and I am just tired of reading the advice in umptee-thousand different articles and publications not to click on links in email unless one is pretty sure about it.

Well, this is totally unexpected. And though when I hover my mouse over the link, it looks like the important part of it is legitimate, I'm not an expert in this. (In the above I got rid of the stuff after "token=" and replaced it with (blah blah blah).

Sometimes I get an email like this, from say Chase (my credit card company) that says at the bottom if you do not trust clicking the links in this email, you can log in to your Chase account and check your messages (or somesuch)

I do have a UPS account, and I did log in, but there is no "messages" or anything there that I can think where such might be.

Damn it.

Not to mention, separately, from UPS I got a text notification that a package was delivered to my front door at 3 PM yesterday. (With a tracking number that I explored to death). A package delivery was totally unexpected, I have no idea who sent the package or what is in it, except it originated in Denver and it is 7.00 pounds, according to the "Proof of Delivery". OH, AND THERE WAS NO PACKAGE.

Aside: "Proof of Delivery" my ass. Its just a document saying it was delivered at 3 PM Front door.

I spent more than an hour with the f'ing UPS chatbot and every other way to find out more about it, ... there was no way to explain this very simple and I would think common dilemma, but it simply couldn't understand.

I simply googled the left-half of the "from" email address:

of whether this forum is only for DU problems, as opposed to general computer-Internet problems.

Get help from your fellow DU members and share tips about DU, in a positive, supportive environment.


I suppose I should try the Computer Help and Support forum too.

from the OP -

Just to review the key points of the text notification:
* The package I was notified about was totally unexpected
* There was no package at my front door (where it said it had been delivered to)

The above was on my cellphone and then I went to ups.com on my computer and typed the tracking number into the search box, and it matched what I saw when I pressed the link on my cellphone (delivery path from Denver to Minneapolis etc. 7.00 pounds weight, left at front door, etc.)

But I couldn't figure out how to get around the never-understanding chatbot, other than the next closest thing - I filed a claim of a missing package.

That at least notifies them that something went wrong with this delivery.

I also had to put a value on the package content's in order for the software to accept the claim, so I put $5.

One plausible innocent explanation is whoever it was for put in the wrong phone number -- in this case, my phone number.

I also later got past the chatbot thing later to the point where I could have talked to a human, but what the heck, I've done enough screwing around with this, so we'll see. I fully described the situation previously when I filed the claim, so I don't think there is any need for me to talk to them anymore unless/until they want to talk to me.
