I've looked for a link on a few pages and can't find anything.

(115,874 posts)Why do you want to do that?

(2,226 posts)As proof of that? I'm even afraid to post this message in response to your question.
I'd say there's about a 95% chance that this very post, where I'm giving an honest answer, will result in either an unfriendly response ("Don't let the door hit you on the way out--we don't need your kind anyway!" or a trial-by-jury or both.

(115,874 posts)are and enough different forums/groups to make it worthwhile here. I've gotten frustrated with nasty tone and taken a break, coming back to view LBN's gathering of news and some of the smaller groups/forums.
It gets weird here at times and around now in the election cycle is one of those times. I wish it wasn't, but it does happen at times. My advice is to take a break, or chose what to reply to carefully, or seek out the smaller forums found under Forums and Groups tab at the top of the page.

(28,749 posts)In general I think you'd have to self-delete everything, then change your password to a scramble, and log out. That's about the only option.

(115,874 posts)I think that's what you meant. If not, I am sometimes naively confused.

(38,411 posts)And at this particular time in history (and for good reason) people are on edge. This in addition to the usual knee-jerk reaction to postings not fully read. I think a lot of trolls signed up to try and create chaos. Now that they are creating chaos in the government, they don't need us anymore.
There are a number of things that I think are good about DU. One, if something happens, it's out there quickly. Not always well-described, but out there. And then there's the times you wake up at 2 in the morning with a burning question and somebody answers in 10 minutes.
Sometimes you need a thick skin and other times it's lovy-dovy-warm and fuzzy.

(30,289 posts)People are, as you say, "on edge." Drumpf is horrifying and our horror comes in various flavors and provokes different responses. Mine tend toward sarcasm and profanity.

(115,874 posts)There is a link at the bottom of every page. You can just sign out and not participate but the only way to make your posts go away is to self delete them.

(6,587 posts)That is why I was wondering. Thanks for the info. Haven't seen the sign-out yet but will I guess.

(115,874 posts)I've taken breaks from DU, sometimes it is not particularly nice here in the big forums. Lbn works and some of the smaller forums are good. It's too easy to spend lots of time and energy here. Best of luck.

(135,425 posts)It requires you to run around insulting people (and nowadays, the insults have to be pretty egregious, owing to the partisanship of the primary season), get a bunch of hides, and then have the admins tombstone you.

(11,746 posts)It wasn't like this when I joined. This place was home. Unfortunately it went off the rails somehow.
I understand how disappointing that is. I used to believe we were better than "conservatives." Now I don't know. It seems to me we could coalesce around Democrats but that doesn't seem possible at this place. Why? I really don't know. Apparently I became a "third way" or a "corporatist" somewhere along the way. I often wonder how that happened. What did I do? Why on earth did I do that?

(11,746 posts)A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, How do I know you wont sting me? The scorpion says, Because if I do, I will die too.
The frog is satisfied, and they set out. But in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp Why?
Replies the scorpion: Its my nature

I think the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference, as a famous fellow once said.
There are enough "fun" corners in this site to find a good conversation or two!

It would be fun to watch, at least.
