Malta, Libya sign agreement on collaboration in healthcare

by Annaliza Borg
Article published on 22 February 2012

Health Minister Joe Cassar and his Libyan counterpart Dr Fatma Hamroush, yesterday described the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding as a historic moment in which both were proud to be participating.

“We are so proud to have been there and want to continue being there for the people of Libya,” said Dr Cassar. “What we can do and have done makes us proud to be Maltese.”

Dr Hamroush said she felt very honoured to be signing the memorandum and was looking forward to stronger ties. The Maltese people have been there for us at difficult times, she said while highlighting that humanitarian aid and even doctors who gave their assistance in Libya, had reached the country through Malta.

The memorandum is of a generic nature and contains provisions regarding the Maltese and Libyan Health Departments assisting each other in matters related to human resources, procurement, the interchange of HR, education, and specialisation at all levels.
