2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy post-election balance sheet looks to be true
The day after the disastrous election, I made a list of what would happen under Trump and shared it friends and family. That was when there was talk that he would govern differently than he campaigned. Two months down the road things look as bleak as they did then, if not worse. The list of things we will certainly lose is probably way too short.
What we will lose
1. Affordable Health care
2. Affordable higher education
3. Sensible gun safety laws
4. Fairness to all minorities
5. Valued immigrant population
6. Womens sovereignty over their own bodies
7. Action to deal with climate change
8. Regulations of Wall Street excesses
9. A balanced Supreme Court
10. What little civility that remains in Congress
11. Minimum wage protection
12. Investment and research toward clean alternative energy
13. Nuclear treaty with Iran
14. Any hope for national unity
15. Grace, civility and dignity in the White House
16. The admiration of the free world
17. Ana articulate, caring President
Whats at risk
1. Social Security
2. Medicare
3. Economic recovery and stability
4. Treaties with traditional allies and their trust
5. Cooperation with Islamic partners
What we will gain
1. Nothing I can think of. Help me out.
