Although this is a pro-Trump article, it is an excellent example of what they are thinking and reveals the ways they can make Trump's image palatable to the American people. Notice this article was written in November right at the time Trump made his 'Save the Cat' efforts with the Carrier air-conditioning company. It was Chuck Jones, the union president, who broke the illusion by calling Trump a liar. That is the way it has to be done. My apologies if anyone thought this was a promotion of Trump.
To understand Trump is to understand Steve Bannon who masterminded the Trump campaign around the filmographer Leni Riefenstahl's work who is best known for her propaganda film "Triumph of the Will". Throughout the 1930's she portrayed Hitler as a regular guy who loved his dog, danced a jig, laughed with the guys juxtaposed to the Nuremberg rallies showing Hitler to be a tough guy who was going to make Germany great again etc, etc. Bannon has openly admitted his admiration of Riefenstahl's filmography since that is one of his specialties as well. It was Riefenstahl who is the one who really created the image of Hitler to make him acceptable to the German people. Goebbels was merely his mouthpiece and promoter of his evil ideas.
That is why I posted this article so you can see what these monsters are trying to do.
How to Break an Illusion
Posted November 14th, 2016 @ 8:23am in #Trump #Clinton
Anti-Trump protesters believe they are fighting the good fight to stop a racist, homophobic, sexist monster. But about half of the country the half that Im in is in a different movie. In our movie, we selected a new president and half of the country is in cognitive dissonance over it. Assuming the protesters are the ones experiencing the illusion, and not us, how can we release them from their zombie-like existence so they will stop blocking traffic?
. . .
In summary, you cant prove you are honest by NOT stealing something in public. But you can prove you are not a monster by saving a kitten from a tree in public. Monsters never do that sort of thing. This idea is so true that it became the title of the best book ever written about movie script writing: Save the Cat.
Watch for Trump to save some kittens as many as necessary until you cant hold in your mind the frame that hes a monster. Enjoy the show. The Master Persuader is just getting started.

(243 posts)I wanted DU readers to see what the pro-Trump people are thinking. The Carrier incident is one of those saving the cats that Dilbert referred to. It is important for us to see the way they think in order to counter it. Ignorance is not bliss in this instance.

(7,170 posts)1. Trump has a problem with truthfulness himself. If we hold him to it, he doesn't have a way out, either.
2. We need to get the latest tools that business uses for messaging and social media, especially real time tools so that wat we can be fast on the uptake.
3. Go after his surrogates on truthfulness. Don't let Kelly Anne spew. Start destroying their lies.
4. Go after trumps Russian connections. As Putin becomes more belligerent in Eastern Europe, start reminding all the rust belt voters with Eastern European heritage, how evil Russia is. Reinvigorate union ties with the union movements in Eastern Europe, especially Poland. Broadcast Pope Francis critiques of Putin. Most republicans don't like Russia... rebrand Putin as a continuation of the evil empire.
5. Truth will out. There is no niceness in Medicaid, Medicare, Socisl Securiy cuts. They will do this early to mitigate republican losses in the mid term.
Work with popular culture and fashion to create a counter to Trump love of bling. If ivanka is pushing pink and blond, straight long hair, fashionistas need to push black and curly. Push a green aesthetic.
Rework everything soft that trump tries to do as hokey, pandering. Trump really does not like vulnerable people and it shows.
Tump will get a lot of yardage at the beginning of his term because it takes time for lies to catch up with him. I wonder what it would take to close down his twitter account or render it ineffective.
How do you destroy Branding and messaging?

(7,170 posts)Yes, lots and lots of kittens 🐱 will be shown... but these pics don't work if kittens are clawing him.
Also, we need lots of pics of pulling the curtain away to reveal trump lurking in sewage.
We need to seize the narrative and write the story.
Thanks to his tiny fingers on twitter, Trump can be distracted with personal attacks. When ivanka has been in the public eye long enough, start attacking her as ugly and as a one not a ten on his twitter account. He will go nuts.

(38,269 posts)He has lots of levers. Expect him to push one lever after another until the monster framing cracks. By summer the story will be that hes the most flexible and centrist president in our history.

Note, there's no mention of Trump's plans for women's rights - which Trump has been plenty clear about.

(26,980 posts)By summer he will have absolutely confirmed himself as a monster.
I've actually found the Dilbert cartoons to be clever, perceptive and funny. Even clever people can become delusional, or have huge blind spots. I wonder if it's a sign of early stage dementia, seriously.

(26,727 posts)Trump will start saving some kittens (and I know this is a metaphor, not literal kittens) to totally fuck with our heads. He's not capable of that sort of subtlety, and although some around him might be, they will NEVER convince him he needs to change anything at all.
This is a man who tweets with his tiny fingers whatever enters his head. If he sees some kittens in a tree and someone suggests to him that he rescue the little dears, he'll refuse, saying they got themselves up that tree, they can get themselves down. And in all likelihood, some staffer would have placed those kittens there, in the hope that Donald would do the rescue and be a hero. Never happen.

(26,455 posts)And one who likes trading in old memes. He's also a misogynist asshole who definitely identifies with Trump and O'Bannon and the rest of the mafia.
He is also gaming the system, continuing the con which Trump and company have perpetuated which is to focus on Trump and not the issues. Trump was the one who diverted from the issues by talking about himself, and by making personal comments against people. It was never about the issues for Trump. - he's framing the fight just like Trump did. He is continuing the RW meme of making this about Trump. Whenever we took the bait, it was always done to our disaster as Trump had already framed the response taking us down that errant rabbit hole.
The issues remain, we need to focus on the issues such as where are our jobs, where is our healthcare, our retirement, the ecology and are we making things better for our children's children? (Or if you believe, 7th generation)

(12,344 posts)They did something like this with Bush. They gave him the problem over stem cells to solve, solved it for him, then clapped their hands and said, "see, he isn't so dumb after all." Then 9/11 happened and it was time for war anyway, so stem cells were forgotten. Only issue with Trump is, will he save a kitten before the war starts or after?
