HERE IS what a REAL tenor sounds like!!!

Last edited Thu Dec 22, 2016, 07:28 PM - Edit history (1)

Evgeny Belyaev with the Alexandrov Ensemble in the mid-1970s, conducted by Boris Alexandrovich Alexandrov.

Too bad he passed away some 22 years ago. Trump could have invited him.
And the Alexandrov Ensemble is just bone chilling !! There is still time to engage them, eh !!!

I heard/saw them in January, 1985 in Leningrad, the night AFTER seeing both Pertoushka and Le Sacre du Printemps at the Kirov, now the Mariinsky Theater.

to hire a Russian tenor rather than an Italian one (regardless of their relative skills), since Berlusconi is no longer the PM of Italy. As far as tenors go, I'm rather partial to this one:

But he's Danish and they are a bunch of socialists.

I first heard him sing on an old recording of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, with Helmut Krebs, who was also terrific. Actually, the recording wasn't so old at the time. I was in college, late '60s; it was required listening in an early music course I took, and it blew me away. Wonderful tenors, both of them.

When I was particularly overwhelmed with teenaged angst I would sit in my dorm room and listen to his recording of Schubert's Die Winterreise, which is some of the most emo music every written. "My girlfriend left me and now I must wander off into the snow and die."
