(4,533 posts)If there is a dispute where the US Govt says one thing and someone else says something else, you should bet against the US Govt. That's just the smart bet based on history.
So if you consider the source, why would you dispute Greenwald?

(55,894 posts)in FACT his partner was carrying stolen, classified information.
Greenwald then lied about his partner being held for hours with no legal council... in FACT his partner refused the lawyer he was given and insisted on waiting hours of his personal lawyer to show up.

(4,533 posts)Miranda was detained because of his association with Greenwald. You would not have been detained were you traveling with a hard drive. Greenwald did not say Miranda was not carrying Snowden files. Miranda was not allowed to call Greenwald who would have provided legal advice. Greenwald said he was not allowed to talk to "a lawyer," not that he was denied the right to talk to a lawyer the British government would provide or approve.
In my opinion the odds Greenwald would lie are low and the odds US Govt security officials would lie are moderate. Security agents are explicitly trained to say things which are not true. They have departments organized to train their agents to deceive.

(36,699 posts)no evidence of any Russian hack. He is criticizing Democrats for making an issue of it.
I thought that was a verified fact by the FBI, CIA and the President.

(4,941 posts)the only thing that's happened is someone said it happened.
Personally, in my job as an analyst, it's imperative I get both sides before making up my mind.
Until I see proof, not "he/she said it happened", I'm keeping an open mind.
If someone can correct me, I'm open.

(7,581 posts)They brieifed Obama and Congress. So now the propaganda is that it never even happened? Really? Do you think they would have briefed the President and Congress on some leaks? Jesus on a pogo stick!

(9,359 posts)lead them to believe it was Russia.
The original Intel lead them to Brit was Romania until they noticed a few things out of whack. An Intel member stated on NPR that based on the evidence they have that if this were a bank robbery they wouldn't have evidence to bring charges. It's all circumstantial.

(43 posts)I work in the IT security industry and I can tell you how easy this is to stage.
Hack into a local Russian machine, use malware known to be tied to prior Russian hacking, then jump off to the DNC and install said malware and boom... instant framing. We saw the US use similar tactics in the Russian-Afghanistan war, when we purchased Russian weapons on the black market and fed them back to the rebels. I've learned long ago to not trust what any country's intelligence agency tells the public.
That said, I'm not saying they didn't hack the US... I'm sure they did at some point, but I can say with almost absolute certainty that it's impossible to validate this 100%. Everyone could be playing right into the hands of a Chinese or North Korean hacker or who knows what...

(55,894 posts)Just the fact you wrote THAT makes me skeptical you work in IT security in any meaningful way.
The hackers originally used a few Cyrillic characters and went back in and changed it.
That was one clue.

"These experts - who said they have examined the breach in detail - said the Cyrillic characters were buried in metadata and in an error message. Other giveaways, such as a tainted Internet protocol address, also were difficult to find."
Tainted addresses difficult to find? Really? The fact you think that it's difficult to compromise and proxy off "addresses" is hilarious as well as the simple substitution of Cryillic characters. Nation/state hacking departments have some of the brightest people on the planet working for them. The character substitution is trivial and again does not prove anything conclusively. I would expect nothing less given the sophistication of prior nation/state attacks and it would also be expected if someone had used Russian malware (which anyone can download freely on the web). I would stick to whatever it is you do, because you obviously know nothing about computers.

(43 posts)Confirmation is almost impossible in these cases. I give equal odds that the Russians hacked it vs someone wanting to appear as Russian hackers. It's trivial to fake.

(12,448 posts)so it can't be true. Greenwald is a Hillary hater, a Democratic Party Hater, and sometimes an Obama hater. I believe absolutely nothing he says. Often the truth is the exact opposite of what he says.

(10,283 posts)...Greenwald has been observant - and maybe even involved - with the network of people providing the connection tissue from Trump to Putin. I am surprised he hasn't been able to connect the dots. He certainly seems intelligent enough.
