Fight fire with fire....
With real fire, not a picture of a fire, not with a new commission convened to study whether or not there actually was a fire, not with fire experts hired to describe fires, not with a focus group to vote on their favorite firefighter. Let`s just start fighting every single time in every imaginable non violent way....and not let up.
I`ve read umpteen posts over time written by people waiting for Democratic leaders to take action following a disturbing event, a tv segment commandeered by a lying surrogate, or another obstruction by Republicans expert at blocking things. How many of us have commented on how good the Republicans are at projecting their own shortcomings onto our party or onto one of our candidates? Remember John Kerry and his Purple Heart? Trump talking about rigged elections? How stunned are you when you hear about the large per centage of Republicans who believe President Obama is a Kenya-born Muslim? That Trump won the popular vote? That Climate Change is a hoax? That violent crimes are up, way up?
How many of you wanted more Democratic leaders to show up with the Standing Rock Sioux? With the children poisoned by their own government in Flint? With grieving parents after another violent weekend in Chicago? How many of you shook your head in disbelief when critical story after critical story was ignored by mainstream media so they had time to cover Trump steaks, Trump hotels, Trump vodka, Trump hats, Trump children, Trump golf courses, Trump tweets? We have to combat this crap and in a big way.
We need to do our job: march, protest, boycott, withhold campaign contributions, write letters to editors, email, tweet, sign petitions, post signs in our yards and in our apartment windows, buy bumper stickers, refuse to shop at stores whose owners spread hate, volunteer, put more emphasis on and energy in mid-term elections, speak up, practice non violent civil disobedience, spread our own word, listen to those who think differently and encourage them to listen to us.
We`ll never get our programs enacted and our priorities honored if we don`t control the House and Senate. We must increase our numbers, including folks from red states, including folks who did not vote, including governorships, mayoral positions, including positions in smaller, local elections. We just have to believe in ourselves again and understand that Donald Trump is the poorest excuse for a president this country has ever seen. He`ll have a zillion flare-ups over the next four years, and we shouldn`t let up on him for one minute.
