Constitutional Lawyer: It's an "Outrage" That Judge Halted Michigan Presidential Election Recount

On Wednesday, a federal judge ordered Michigan’s Board of Elections to stop the state’s electoral recount. U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith said he would abide by a court ruling that found that former Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein could not seek a recount. Goldsmith concluded, "A recount as an audit of the election has never been endorsed by any court." Stein has pledged to continue to push for a recount. Michigan is one of three battleground states where Stein had demanded a recount. The other two states are Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. President-elect Donald Trump narrowly defeated Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton in all three states. For more, we’re joined by John Bonifaz, attorney and political activist specializing in constitutional law and voting rights. He was one of a group of leading election lawyers and computer scientists calling for a recount in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

If the only people pushing the story of vote fraud are pushing their blog or their party, it may be they are just looking to get attention and the resulting clicks.

Just based on the number of people who contributed to the recount fund and the twitter trending of #auditthevote and the number of people who are looking for anyway to block Trump's installation. But that's just pure speculation on my part. I don't have any info to back up whether there has been.

investigating if Obama was a secret Muslim and/or born in Kenya, or if Jade Helm was a secret plan to put conservatives into camps. The number of people supporting an idea doesn't actually make the idea any good.

My point was that based on the number of people who support the recount, I assume there are constitutional lawyers in amongst that group. Who could be lending their expertise to Stein.

I didn't say the recount was a good idea based on the number of supporters.

want this fascist in office to halt any progress toward equality of all americans and to get them damn huge tax cuts, again. They rule this country and NO ONE else. Recount? Won't matter. He's in, we're out and in extreme danger of losing everything. Social Security, Medicare and the democrats, pelosi especially has me worried, they seem so weak and impotent at this time that I really feel they cannot protect from the RW hordes trumpfuhrer has unleashed on american people of color. Steve Bannon setting policy and running the WH while the trumpfuhrer is on celebrity apprentice, firing people. What a fucking circus that's going to be. . Shit!!!!!!! What a disaster.

Not only isn't it an outrage... judge Goldsmith (an Obama appointee) really didn't have a choice. The court above him had already said that interpretation of the recount law was a state court matter. Once the state appellate court had ruled, his hands were essentially tied.

For instance.. the "Constitutional Lawyer" claims:

This is a misreading of the state law

That doesn't matter... because it wasn't Goldsmith who interpreted state law.

It’s an outrage that the voters of Michigan will not have their votes properly counted.

This judge didn't rule that their votes wouldn't be counted. He accepted the state court's ruling that Stein couldn't request it. Clinton could have.

Her campaign should have more money than Stein's, and she was the person who could actually benefit from a recount.

...magically 87 vote counting machines broke down on November 8th - yeah right, they broker down. I am so disgusted. Where are the Dems on this - Bernie, Elizabeth, Donna Brazile. I give Hillary a break as she can't jump on this for being called out as "not upholding the election results"

Because of the breakdowns the machines were fed ballots multiple times. And the poll workers didn't reset their counters when that happened.

So the machines have too many votes in them, not too few. And those are mostly votes for Hillary. If Detroit is recounted Hillary's winning margin there will decrease, not increase.

Jill's work has indeed revealed problems in Detroit, but they helped Hillary, not Trump.

Attempted to be run through the machine. That is why log books didn't match mumber of physical ballots.

And is now the reasons being used to not recount certain precincts.
