State of the Recount: Michigan halted, hearing in PA, WI 70% complete
In Michigan a ruling from a federal judge has ended any real hope of a complete recount.
A recount that started Monday ended Wednesday night. U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith set aside his earlier order that got the recount moving, acting after the state appeals court said Stein doesnt qualify as an aggrieved candidate under Michigan law.
The initial order from Judge Goldsmith promised he would review his decision if there was a ruling from the state court. There was. He did. Its over.
A federal judges ruling that effectively halted Michigans presidential recount after three days assures Republican Donald Trumps narrow victory in the state.
Considering Michigans ruling that districts with even one ballot difference between paper ballots and reported totals couldnt be counted knocked out over 370 districts in the Detroit area alone, its not clear that a recount would have actually addressed any genuine issues.
In Wisconsin the count is 70 percent complete, but it hasnt produced much difference in the outcome.

Is there more to the story in Michigan, or is this accurate? What about in WI and PA? Anyone have other information to share on the recount effort?

They said that whether to recount was a state law/court issue, but that when to start it was within the circuit court's discretion

(1,714 posts)regardless of what happens in those counties. With Michigan's recount thwarted, there is no way Hillary can get to 270 electoral votes.

(17,987 posts)For a recount it should be based on percentages and not one vote difference. It is a whole lot easier to have accurate records for 500 voters than 10,000 voters for example. They should allow one vote off for 500 for example, and 20 for the 10,000.
Also the number of voters per voting machines should be equal. Combine precincts if necessary and make someone travel. All funding should be done by the state, and funds should be equal per voter.

(1,714 posts)We needed to overturn the results in ALL THREE STATES to change the outcome of the election. If Michigan is over, there is no way for Hillary to win.

(27,643 posts)One state would be enough if we could show clear signs that the election was stolen. That might open other states up to scrutiny (perhaps legal/criminal processes rather than standard recounts).
However - if the election was stolen, then WI had to be part of it, and the recount there is almost complete (and looks clean)
