2016 Postmortem

Half a dozen academics and other specialists on Monday submitted new testimony supporting a lawsuit from Stein against Wisconsin authorities, in which she asked a court to prevent county officials from carrying out their recounts by machine.
Stein argued that Wisconsins plan to allow automatic recounting risks tainting the recount process because the electronic scanning equipment involved may incorrectly tally the results and could have been attacked by foreign hackers.
There is a substantial possibility that recounting the ballots by hand will produce a more correct result and change the outcome of the election, Stein argued in the lawsuit in Dane County circuit court. A copy was obtained by the Guardian. - The Guardian
Having more election security experts join in to establish result integrity is always a good thing.
Wish I could be there to help out too.

(9,654 posts)I was at the Democratic convention which addressed Florida's problems of 2000. And then we all tried the "new and improved" computerized voting machines.
Lesson: where there is a will, there is a way.

(7,020 posts)about all the lawsuits filed to stop it. We know how it was on again off again..We know about all the stall tactics used by James Baker right?
Whenever the Gore campaign would gain an edge through the courts we know how quickly Baker would file an appeal...
Finally as the election went to the Supreme Court, this as we know is exactly what Baker wanted and the decision/s was made by a right wing court.
Republicans had made up their mind that they were going to win that election,no matter what it took.
So here we are in 2016 and now after a very popular Democratic President,Republicans are convinced they were going to have a Republican in the White House at whatever the cost.
We are headed into a fierce battle once the slightest hint of fraud is exposed and we can expect Republicans to fight this in the same way they fought this in 2000..So what if this goes back to the Supreme Court with only 8 Justices? How do Democrats fair or what can they expect? I would say another 2000??.
What is really aggravating is the fact that when Democrats had control of both Houses they promised that we will never be faced with election theft again..They sat on their hands while it happened again in 2004 and now here again in 2016
So all this BS could have been prevented if when Democrats had the Majority in Congress would have stopped sitting on their hands and would have passed some laws that would have prevented this.
For starters they could have forced the voting machines to be modernized with fraudulent proof systems and passed that in the budget but we probably will see the same thing in 2020 because there is no chance in hell now of upgrading because of the total Republican control.

(16,037 posts)that mess in Florida in 2000 was assisted by one John Roberts; it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he was handsomely rewarded for that work when he was appointed to replace the late Rhenquist. Having Roberts on the bench is not exactly comforting to Democrats; that said, an evenly split court could benefit either side in an election issue. The pile of reasons to loathe Republicans grows daily.

How naive are these people? Leave the fcuking machines unchanged!! If they've been hacked, whatever changes were made by the hack would still be in place.

(7,552 posts)As the Republicans run out the clock with court delays. Even if the court acts the decision will be appealed, all of the way up to the Supreme Court, if necessary, where there could be a 4-4 split on the merits but allowing Wisconsin to participate in the Electoral College vote on December 19.

(15,262 posts)If the recounts take too long, does the Electoral College proceeds without the states not yet certified is what I'm wondering about.
