2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA little appreciation for Skinner.
We all know this was a tough election loss for everyone on this board. We, also, know that we are in this together.
Skinner didn't have to open up this board to rehash primary fights, give opposing views to the direction of the party, or even allow us to vent our frustration with the party.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't always see eye to eye with Skinner, but I do respect him and thank him for giving us this opportunity.
Allow me to be the first. Thank you, Skinner.

I burst into tears as I started to type, it was so raw. Thought of how awful it had to be for Skinner, Elad, and EarlG -- someone tried to murder their "baby."

(9,654 posts)we should be o.k. Liberals, progressives, unions, environmentalists, feminists, gay activists, scientists, economists.... All these factions need to align and fight conservatism. It's meaningless and has become a cancer on democracy in 2016.
Thank you Skinner for the boards and it's rules. We need them and we need to elevate our conversation so that everyone hears.

(48,747 posts)I suspect that there are many DUers who have known only a Democratic administration while being members here.
Some of us remember Skinner's quiet assuring words after our loss in 2004.
So, yes, thank you for keeping the faith.

I would be freakin' LOST without this board. The time that this board was down after election day was some of the worst days I've had since I lost my job a few years ago.

(24,010 posts)I am new to DU and in the short time before the election, I became dependent on this site. No trolls, thoughtful thinkers and humorous comments saved me from sobbing in my bed in he days after the election. In fact, I became a star member before the hack because I couldn't bear MSM. After the hack, I was distraught. I am grateful to be a tiny part of this community. Thank you Elad, Earl G and Skinner. Much love.

(1,591 posts)I appreciated the personal touch of Skinner working with me to get my password reinstated. I was semi-frantic and we corresponded several times via email and I know how incredibly busy he had to be during that time. So, yes, one more big Thank You!

(10,258 posts)I couldn't survive without DU. It is my 'sanity place.' And I just about lost my sanity while DU was down.
I thank the three of you so many times over, for bringing DU to life, and for keeping it going all of these years.
We are all going to need this place more than ever, now that the orange thing is in our midst.
Long live DU. And Skinner, Elad, and EarlG!!!

(907 posts)In order to maintain my sanity during these trying times, DU is my first visit every morning when I turn on my computer and sit down with my cup of coffee. I was having withdrawals while DU was down ~ I live in a very RED state and there are few here who share my views, so having all of you wonderful people at DU helps me make it through another day of uncertainty. Thanks guys and gals.

(22,236 posts)Being able to voice ourselves here makes us feel like we're contributing something to our overall cause. As least that's the way I feel.
The best thing, though, is that people all over the country and the world can read up on so many important things they see on DU that never get reported in the mainstream media. Thanks for that!

(2,531 posts)It was good for me to see everyone posting here, while I stopped short a couple times of actually posting myself, it helped to know I could still see people's opinions / feelings being posted.
If the forum hadn't got hacked, I wonder what a job it would have been trying to patrol this place!
Thanks. Skinner, for always keeping the ship afloat!
