With recount questions looming, Allegheny County postpones certifying election results
Results of the Nov. 8 presidential and Senate elections in Allegheny County will not be certified yet, as officials give themselves more time to respond to petitions for a recanvass of voting machines.
Below is a statement that was released Monday by Jerry Tyskiewicz, director of the county's Elections Division.
This morning's Board ofElections meeting was recessed until December 12 at 9:00 a.m. in order to allowthe Elections Division the opportunity to review and respond topetitions/affidavits being filed in the county Elections Division.
At this point, there is noorder from the Secretary of State, pursuant to the Pennsylvania Election Code,to recount the returns for an office on this past Novembers election. TheElection Code, however, also provides that individual petitions/affidavits canbe filed by registered voters asking for a voting machine recanvass in theirspecific voting district. If three petitions/affidavits are received in any onevoting district, a recanvass will be done in that specific district. Thepetition/affidavits are requesting a recanvass of the vote for President of theUnited States and for United States Senate. As petitions/affidavits arecontinuing to be filed, we are unable to provide a number or information on potential districts which will be recanvassed at this time. -
