Montgomery County postpones certifying election results in face of recount effort

Last edited Mon Nov 28, 2016, 07:48 PM - Edit history (1)

Montgomery County has postponed certifying its general election results after being notified that the Jill Stein campaign and a team of volunteers were seeking a recount in the presidential election.

The county’s Board of Elections was scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. Monday to certify the results, but instead, county spokeswoman Lorie Slass informed reporters that the certification would be pushed to Dec. 12.

“We have been put on notice by the Jill Stein campaign and a number of citizens in Montgomery County that they intend to challenge the results of the 2016 general election and they are seeking a recount. As of 3:30 p.m. today we have received 91 petitions calling for a recount,” said Val Arkoosh, chairwoman of the Board of Elections, in a statement.

“We started early this morning,” said Ruth Damsker, a former Montgomery County commissioner who was participating in the volunteer effort, helping organize the petitions in the Voter Services office. “I really feel very strongly that we have to make sure that every resident feels confident in the machines that we use and that the counts are correct. I think this is a positive thing just to reassure that our elections are fair.” - The Times Herald

I think this is a positive thing too. Thanks Ruth for agreeing with us concerned citizens. Now it is left up to judges who might also agree there are grounds for recount/audits of the votes and machines.

from Wiki:

Montgomery County is home to large and growing African American, Korean American, Puerto-Rican American, Mexican American, and Indian American populations. The county has the second-largest foreign-born population in the region.[12]

I have only heard of that in the last couple of days. There is also evidence that provisional ballots, early voting, etc may have been tossed, not necessarily in this county, everywhere.

They have plenty of stones to look under.
