2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThink you know how Luke Russert thinks? Tweets about Trump
https://twitter.com/LukeRussert1. I try not to jump into the political waters very much these days but this needs to be said re Trump and "birtherism."
2. Trump was carnival barker re birtherism but in fact the entire #GOP was behind it by staying silent and letting belief grow among base
3. Romney in 2012 admits that Trump and birtherism is wrong but he needs the votes for 50.1% http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/28/romney-doesnt-back-away-from-birther-trump/
4. I was at plenty of press conferences where the #GOP Leadership never took the issue head on, never said unequivocally "Obama is American"
5. History should show the racist repugnant disgusting thing that is birtherism, is not just Trump-it's ALL #GOP who stood by & did nothing

6. Lastly, think of discipline Obama has had for 8 years to not just say publicly, "You race baiting motherf...." Looking forward to memoir

(17,822 posts)The aplomb with which the Pres. has handled all these slings and arrows deserves some sort of award. I agree too that his memoir is going on to be a must-read.

(64,377 posts)Barack Obama not only has class, he has control of his emotions.
Still, I'd live to see PBO put Cheeto Benito into a headlock and pummel his ass.

(4,033 posts)I have the upmost respect for his response to the woman that tried to claim 'birther' at one of his rallies and he stood up for Obama.

(135,425 posts)His favorite word is "BUT" -- like there's two sides to every story.
In some cases, there's the credible candidate, and there's the insane orange clown. No "buts" about it.
Russert is a legacy hire.
"Some people say....top people...you know, I've heard things...." that he was hired because someone killed his old man to shut him up. This is a case of keeping friends close, and enemies closer!
for the irony-impaired.
Russert is jumping on the "Ooooh, birtherism...BAAAAD!" bandwagon NOW--but where was he last year, or the year before, or the year before? It's easy to make 'bold' statements when everyone else is making them as well.
