....I definitely want to watch this movie. I just took the time to look and found it free on Amazon Prime Videos.

And Ran was one of his most beautiful and finest works. Kagemusha is also beautifully filmed in color but Ran is a cut above. The scope of his films covered so many aspects in life besides jidaigeki samurai period films. Masterpieces like Ikiru, High and Low and Drunken Angel, are powerful statements on life and death in post-war Japan and film noir. He along with Ozu and Mizoguchi left a rich legacy of Japanese cinema. Thank God for Kurosawa-san.

I saw it for the first time several years ago, while playing Pocket, the Fool in King Lear. The contrast between Kurosawa's vision and Shakespeare's was wonderful, and equally valid!
