Related: About this forumDogen: ''A drop of water can reflect the whole sky''
Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon does not get wet nor is the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great,
The moon is reflected in a puddle even an inch wide.
The whole moon and the entire sky
Are reflected on one dewdrop in the grass.

(4,074 posts)1. The reflecting water, the individual being...
The reflecting water, the individual being, the self seen as water, be it a drop or a pool, reflects the sky (the all) accurately and clearly.
UNLESS, the water is turgid, murky, covered, rippled and disturbed.
Then the truth of the "sky" is not clearly seen and 'one' is confused, mucked-up.

(32,418 posts)4. Dew bow on lotus leaves
Little waterdrops on leaves refract sunlight just like raindrops, forming the rainbow's surface version: the dew bow.
Outside my window, plum blossoms,
Just on the verge of unfurling, contain the spring;
The clear moon is held in the cup-like petals
Of the beautiful flower I pick and twirl.
