Buddhist monk arrested over murder of woman in Matsuyama

Police in Tokushima said Friday they have arrested a 29-year-old Buddhist monk on suspicion of killing a 37-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her apartment in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, last December.

Police identified the suspect as Yoshinori Kurumi, a monk at Chokenji temple. Police said he is suspected of fatally stabbing Miki Kuroda in the neck with a kitchen knife on Dec 15, Fuji TV reported.

Police said friends of Kuroda said she had met Kurumi during one of her frequent trips to Tokushima City for work.

Police said Kurumi has confessed to the crime. He was quoted as saying he had driven his car to Matsuyama, killed Kuroda, and then returned home after throwing the knife into the sea. However, he has not yet given a motive, police said.
