Erickson's (R) 2-point lead sends mayoral race against Smith (D) to a recount

First a runoff, now a recount.

After a classic cliffhanger in an already “exhausting” race, the Sioux Falls mayoral runoff election was within two votes.

Turns out every single vote counts after all.

As of midnight Tuesday night, and all 79 precincts reporting, the City of Sioux Falls unofficially called 18,279 votes for Christine Erickson and 18,277 votes for Jamie Smith, tying up the race at 49.1%.

“This is not over,” Smith said to his supporters at the Falls Overlook Café during his watch party Tuesday night. “We are not conceding until there is a recount.”
