Loners
Related: About this forumSending Thanksgiving Day love to my loner friends...
Tomorrow I will visit my two 86+ year old parents that I had to place in a facility for Dementia.
Was invited to S.O's sister's place for a giant family deal, prefer not to travel so far.
Thanksgiving I could do without, or just please a two person affair instead of a cross country trip loaded with expectations.
Sigh.

(2,787 posts)My wife died in 2010 after thirty-three years together. Kids are grown and moved away.
The cats and I will celebrate together.
Think I'd prefer a human.
Sigh, indeed.

Last year I volunteered out of town.
This year both folks are with dementia and in a home, I feel compelled to go there tomorrow to help them adjust.

(54,770 posts)Lucked up this summer and met a new friend and I will be going to her place and eating with her kids this afternoon. Looking forward to it, but the holidays with the cat weren't too bad either.
Take care.

(48,945 posts)My sister and her husband drove in from Long Island. My brother and his wife drove up from Virginia.
Our 90 year old father drove 10 miles to the club.
It's the only time of the year where we're together, under one roof.
It was pleasant. The food was good. No fights.
It started at 3:30. Dad left at 5:15. Sister and brother and spouses left at 5:45. Neither wanted to extend the visit to another venue; they wanted to leave, period.
We barely spent 2 hours together.
Part of me was regretful, part of me was thankful.
