Loners
Related: About this forumLoneliness fighting COVID
Recently, I experienced loneliness acutely.
I was admitted to the hospital recently due to COVID.
From a very early age, I felt like an outsider inside my only family.
I was bullied in high school and no teacher and no family member provided encouragement.
I have different values from the rest of my family.
My family could never understand why I admired MLK and RFK.
I was in the hospital for about 5 days with COVID.
A lot of my family are MAGA Republicans and anti-vaxxers.
The hospital gave me a drug called Remdesivir.
Family members texted me to refuse the drug because it can cause liver damage.
Then showed their arrogance when they told me: See vaccinations do not work
I have lymphoma so that is why my immunity is complicated.
Anyway, my family did nothing to pick me up from the hospital when I was discharged.

(20,987 posts)Some of us are luckier than others, where family are concerned. But there are plenty of us on DU who do know the kind of pain you're feeling. You're not alone, even in Loners.
The one who can be kindest to you, though, is you. That includes asking for help when you need it. If you have a care team for your lymphoma, they might be able to hook you up with a support group of other folks with that condition.
Take it easy, one day at a time. You are worth fighting for, so stay strong.
hopefully,
Bright

(6,657 posts)Im so sorry youve been going through such challenges without family support. We are here for you, though.
When my adult son got covid, I asked my husband not to tell his MAGA family members for just that reason - the arrogance about the vaccinations. I wonder how sick he (or you) would have been without those shots. My friend who got covid last year was told by her doctor that as sick as she was, she likely would not have survived covid if she hadnt been fully vaccinated.
Lots of love and hugs and positive energy to you, dear bmichaelh. Im glad you shared here, and I hope that our support helps you.

(35 posts)I think the majority of us here on DU (Im more of a lurker) know that chosen family is greater than birth family.
Know you are loved. Know we are all pulling for you.
Know that this discussion board is more than that.
Much love, much healing to you.

I was married to a woman who developed leukemia.
Our list of infection precautions was long and at times hard to understand.
stay safe and do what you can.

(5,282 posts)terrible ordeal you have going on; families can be exhausting and depleting.
it's best to not engage too much with families like that, I use the ignore outlook on life quite often. sometimes when I do, I get bashed even more but I just clam up until the storm is over. take care, friend.

Do what is best for yourself, ignore the maga and anti-science crap.
