wow. Hospice offers free grief groups or counseling

I just went to a senior fair to find resources for my Mom. My 84 year old Dad died unexpectedly 3 months ago. I was doing fine but just became debilitated with grief this last week. A friend suggested hospice but my Dad died in the hospital, not with hospice. Still, I found today that I can attend with no cost to me. (I guess it's paid by medicare?) My local hospice offers groups, one on one counseling and short term groups to help with facing holidays.

I thought others may want to take advantage of this service, also. I live in California so I don't know if this is just our state or if it's nationwide.

Hospice is wonderful - my wife and I both lost our dads in the last 5 years - thankfully, they both had hospice care at the end. Remarkable service.

I know hospice is wonderful. My dad had a stroke and died suddenly so we never used hospice. We would have under different circumstances.

Thanks for the tip on hospice....my Dad passed from cancer in 2004, but he never had a chance to leave the hospital.

... but wanted to say I am sorry for your loss. Hospice is wonderful. They would call my mom to make sure she was alright and since I was also a caretaker would talk to me. I don't know how we would have survived without hospice.

6. Dear cally, my husband died unexpectedly 5 years ago. Without the counseling from our local

hospice facility, I doubt I could have made my way through the whole process. A friend told me about the meetings at our regional hospice facility. It is set up to help those with deaths of parents, spouses, family members, friends.
I went to the first meeting with great trepidation. Met some wonderful people, each with a with major crisis of their own.

I found great comfort meeting these fine people and talking about how to cope with a whole new world without our most important companion.

These people at hospice are trained to help you cope.
I am still at a loss but without them, I don't know what I would have done. There was no charge to attend these sessions for which I am grateful. I have limited funds and final expenses for my husband were great.

To those who need a shoulder to cry on, a learned voice for counseling, I recommend the local hospice facility.
I was with a group of 6 or 7 others. We all cried together, talked together and left the meetings feeling that we were not alone.

7. Thanks...My Mom went and it has helped her a lot

She plans to take the grief series again when it is offered. I hear her mention things she learned during the 12 week series every time I see her. I did some research and it is paid through medical in my area. What a great service.

8. Hospice has been amazing the last few days

Gram is sedated, morphined up and resting comfortably. They gave us lots of info on the bereavement services here in Oregon. excellent care.
