driving me insane after a week...and, of course, it will be in our water/sewer bills...I've dripped those faucets on dish- and wash-clothes to lessen the sound but....drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip....

The office warned us about raising the values of our rent insurance and not letting it lapse...and threatened to investigate "water emergencies" and hold tenants responsible for damages if we don't follow their freeze alert protocols, especially if we go on OOT vacations and not keep the furnace warm enough or fail to drip, drip, drip... SMH at the genius that put inaccessible water piping without shut-off values that lead to outdoor faucets,, front and back, between the units and the main. Hope all your pipes continue to be cozy and intact!

1. We got to 10 this morning, and left the water dripping in the kitchen sink

with the sink base open and a heater parked right in the opening. High is supposed to limit at 18 today and this is North Alabama I'm talking about. Forecast for tomorrow early is 8.

At least yesterday the sun burned off almost all the frozen roads, so travel is an option. It's just too cold to care to go anywhere.

2. when they built our house in the 80s

they buried the water lines about 3 foot deep along with the electric lines. They did many things wrong, but this is a real boon in the winter. I do have to remember to disconnect all water hoses and lines outside or it freezes the inlet valve and poof goes 30 dollars for a new one.

I have one sink where the pipes want to freeze when it gets ice cold out. My plumber looked at it and told me I would have to tear the whole sink and counter out to get to the area where it's freezing. He recommended I just let the faucet drip at times like this, so I have been doing so for the past 5 days.

I use all the water: watering plants and to flush the toilet, mostly. None of it has been wasted.

On edit: by letting it drip into a clean container, I can also use it in my humidifier.
