So, that was kind of big...

A giant thunder storm has formed over much of my large state. Not only is it spectacular to witness, it is loud, I have been listening to the thunder since around 5pm Mountain and it's 2.5 hours later and it's still rumbling.

What it looks like from above...

What I saw as it was building as it passed over , well, it's not all the way past yet.

It sure did cool things down. I hope all of you out there in the heat have a nice cool evening.

We got a little rain from it and it dropped us from around +90F to +72F in a hurry, a welcome development.

But there seem to be several large cell that are merging and they are generating lightning that seems to radiate throughout the whole mass! Just had a lightning flash, counted it off and it was more than ten miles. Should be a good and flashy light show tonight. These things light up the sky for hundreds of miles.

It can get pretty dusty if there's a pollen dump and no rain to wash it to the ground. Up in mountaintown, where I lived not long ago, there would be so much pine pollen in season that puddles were amazing psychedelic, artistic surprises in the parking lots and mud puddles in the woods.

And that's a color picture... pollen in a puddle in the parking lot in the evening.

I saw some here the other day and called my son up to look at them. You don't see those around here very often.

It was still 88F out and my neighbor came out to take pictures too because they were so amazing. We were right under the edge of the anvil.

Right now the sun is between clouds and earth so expecting another rainbow before it's over.

The sky and its events fascinate me. One of the very few things I miss about not looking at the world through a windshield that I kind of miss sometimes is watching the sky all day and night.

I just got back from walking my doggo around a little lake close to my house. The sunset was spectacular. The temp is 76 F and there is a slight breeze. So calming.

and I would rejoice every time since it was so rare. I would just stare out the door, turn off the TV, and enjoy the sounds that I miss since leaving PA.

In the early 70s, it did that a few times and everyone told us how odd it was. We didn't know, we were from New England and thought thunder and lightning were normal.

To cover a state that size. I love long-lasting rainstorms. My dog not so much when the lightning comes with it.

They call it Big Sky country.

I have been familiar with the wide open sky for a long time and it still amazes me. I can still see it, the thunder finally faded away about an hour ago.

The monsoons in New Mexico were cool because you could see one little rain cloud dropping rain from miles away and if it came your way, you got rained on for a few brief minutes and then it was gone. I've never been to Montana but I'm sure the views are awe inspiring.

But these storms of late have been just development over the mountains ans just keep growing, sometimes you get rained on, sometimes you just get to watch.

Hard to bear after a while. We have been lucky, so far, this year. The heat and ubiquitous smoke have not been as bad as previous few years. Don't want to jinx it so I'll say no more.
