Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest...

The weather has been rather strange this year. Right now my area is having an air stagnation warning, no wind, too calm. It's kinda creepy, really, I'd prefer some of our fall and winter gales to this.

Give me a howling windstorm just to make things more interesting. At least there have been sunbreaks. There's a burn ban in effect and people with respiratory issues are advised to take measures.

Of course I can't really complain, we didn't have a rough summer, nor a bad winter or spring.

1. This fall has been on the cool and dry side IMO.

Haven't had the fungi in any abundance yet, at least so far as I've expected.

2. I don't think that will change. The Almanac calls for a drier winter and next year.

Just hoping for less forest fires than usual under that scenario!

I think there will be less luck collecting fungi and wild ferns for food as the climate changes. I have been seeing the effects of warmer and drier seasons for some time, and the stress it put on the evergreens leading to diseases.

It's been chilly here all week, dropping into the twenties at night on the hillsides.

Washing the air pollution out of the atmosphere would help. I don't like the stagnation, either. It feels too strange. Yay for the howling windstorm, or at least a good fresh winter gale.

We had East winds for a couple of days, but today is back to the still, gray fog/overcast. Bleck!

6. I miss the rain. It's winter and it's supposed to be raining more than we have sun.

7. Yeah, it's kinda backwards this year. Rainy and dark most of the year, and now the sun comes out?

Well, it could always be worse, at least we escaped the drought sand heat waves. We lucked out overall in the region this year.

9. It looks like we're going to get your snow! Starting Saturday and next week.

Expecting snow all the way down in the lowlands here at Puget Sound, possibly heavy with avalanches in the passes.

Perhaps you'll get something out of it, it's coming from Alaska and may eventually move in your direction if it makes it past the Cascades and Rockies.

It's been sunny and cold here most of this week. Hope whatever happens you guys are going to do alright.
